Membership fee versus an all-in price: the same money, arranged differently
Some providers charge a membership and let the pharmacy bill you separately. Others include medication. The structures are not comparable at face value.

Does a weight-management programme price include the medication?
It depends on the provider, and the difference is large. In one structure a membership or consultation fee is paid to the provider and the pharmacy invoices the patient separately for the medication; in the other the programme price includes the medication when it is prescribed.
The first number is always smaller and is not always the smaller total bill.
TRD Labs uses the second structure: the programme price includes the medication when a clinician prescribes it, with no separate membership fee and no separate pharmacy invoice.
Two ways to price the same service
In the first structure you pay a membership or consultation fee, and the pharmacy invoices you for the medication when it is prescribed. In the second the programme price includes the medication when it is prescribed. The first number is always smaller and it is not always the cheaper arrangement.
Neither structure is dishonest. What is dishonest is advertising the first number as though it were the second.
Which one we use
Our programme prices include the medication when a clinician prescribes it. There is no separate membership fee and no administrative charge, and the pharmacy does not invoice you separately.
The honest limit of that promise: if a clinician prescribes something outside the plan, that is a different conversation and we will tell you the price before anything is charged.
The question to ask either way
Ask: after I have paid you, is there any other party who will send me a bill for this treatment? A provider who cannot answer that in one sentence is describing the first structure.
And ask when the money moves. Ours is authorised at checkout and captured after a clinician approves a treatment, which is a different question from who sends the bill and worth asking separately.
Side by side
| What is being compared | Membership plus pharmacy invoice | All-in programme price |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised figure | The membership fee only | The full programme price |
| Who else bills you | The pharmacy, separately | Nobody |
| Predictability | Depends on what is dispensed | Fixed for the plan |
| What TRD Labs does | Not used | Used |
Questions, answered.
Is there a separate pharmacy bill?
No. When a clinician prescribes a medication included in your plan, the programme price covers it and the pharmacy does not invoice you separately.
Is there a membership or joining fee?
No. The programme price is the price, and the lines on your receipt match the lines at checkout.
